Lyrics We Leave Behind

I was in a year-and-a-half-long class dedicated to photography and creating an art show. This project, Lyrics We Leave Behind was a part of an art show on February 8th, 2024 called Echo that was aiming to have people look back on the echoes of human relations

This project explores the impact one human can have on another, captured through portraits of the people who have most shaped my life. Each image was inspired by a set of song lyrics that encapsulated our relationship, allowing music to guide the visual narrative. The lyrics served as both creative sparks and emotional anchors, helping me translate intangible feelings of influence and connection into photographs.

The work reflects on the dual power of people and music in shaping identity. Just as loved ones leave lasting marks on our lives, music deepens how we understand and remember those connections. These portraits are not only representations of the individuals themselves, but also of the ways their presence resonates within me—like a song carried forward.

Ultimately, the project invites viewers to consider their own relationships and the music that defines them, reflecting on the ways we are all changed by those we love.

He rocks in the tree tops all day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singing his song

-Bobby Day

Old man sleeping on filthy ground
Spend the whole day just walking around
Nobody else here seems to care
They walk right past him like he ain't even there

-Jason Isbell

Theres a warm wind blowing through the laundromat

There's a young man crying in a cowboy hat

He got square-toes boots, so he ain't for real

-Jason Isbell

And by the time she wakes,

we'll have driven through the state

we'll have driven through the night

-Lumineers

Find someone who grows flowers

in the darkest parts of you

-Zach Bryan

If them demons you’re fighting won’t go away,

Drop on your knees and pray

-Sam Barber

Wasted time shouldn’t qualify for the nights you

won’t forget, no

but to us it did

-Mitchel Tenpenny

We were barely eighteen when we crossed collective hearts

It was cold, but it got warm when you barely crossed by eye

Then you turned, put out your hand, and you asked me to dance

I knew nothing of romance, but it was love at second sight

-fun.

You're the only friend I need

Sharing beds like little kids

And laughing til our ribs get tough

-Lorde

Old friends, Old friends

Sat on their park bench like bookends

-Simon & Garfunkel
